Catsnstuff Down Under – 1: Sydney

May 31, 2008

As you may or may not know, I’m in Australia right now, and I will be using my usually cat-filled blog with travel stories. To all my Dutch friends: I’m doing it in English because my blog has always been in English. Hope it’s ok! Get a cup of tea or coffee, because this is not what I would call a short post.

Nippon smells the roses

May 23, 2008

As I told you earlier, Nippon has had quite a career as a flower smeller. That is to say, she spent an afternoon being mesmerised by a bouquet. I made countless pictures, and I am glad I did, since Nippon treated me to her many, many facial expressions. So here we go!

The first presentation of the flowers:

What the hell are those!
Intrigued cat is…intrigued

At first, she seemed to be more interested in the wrapping plastic and ribbon:

“I love ribbons! Sounds kind of like Nippon!”

But then it was time for flower inspection:

After that, she first seemed very dissapointed with the whole flower arrangement (omg).

Mike Rowe sells useless cat toy

May 21, 2008

One of my favourite programs ever is Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe. It’s entertaining, and Mike Rowe is hilarious, intelligent and not bad to look at. I chanced upon the video below, that contains very old footage of Mike trying to sell crap on home shopping network QVC. He got fired from the job multiple times because of his lackluster presentation and obvious disdain for the products he was selling. Watch him as he tries to sell something that your groceries come in as a cat toy for the low low price of $ 36,50!

The cat is loving it though!

Arie-mated gifs

May 20, 2008

Arie is perfect material for making animated gifs. Why you ask? Because he is too lazy to move more than ten minutes every day. This means he sits still most of the time. So I thought it would be a good idea to turn Arie’s hobby into animated gifs. You know, to give the appearance that he does move a little bit.

Het oor van Aar

Some normal pics of Arie after the jump!

Nippon answers questions

May 17, 2008

Shu’s cat Pearl sent Nippon this meme for her to answer. Since it’s a cat-to-cat business, Nippon has decided to reply. I think if I would have asked her she would have refused. Here we go!

1. What I was doing 10 years ago.
I was living as a pet for a king of some sort in my fourth life, getting all the fish and attention I so deserved, and still do.

2. 5 things on my to-do list for today.
Lying under the bed, sitting directly in front of my owners face and giving him all my devoted attention whilst he is trying to work, chewing on air, looking expectantly and beg for food and walking away disinterested when I get it, sneaking back and eating the food anyway.

3. Snacks I enjoy.
Special cat milk, sardines and mackerel. Also anything people leave out of the fridge and that I’m really not supposed to eat. Not them yeast treats though, what are people thinking with those…

4. Things I would do if I were a billionaire.
Pretty much the same, but with more sardines.

5. Three of my bad habits.
Being very unpredictable and lashing out all of a sudden, asking for attention when people are trying to work, shedding insane amounts of hair around the house. No really, I know all cats do it, but I’m the queen of shedding.

6. Five places I’ve lived.
A kitty castle in my fourth life (see question 1), on the third and fourth flour of the same building in Amsterdam. I will be living in a sardine factory in life six and with a catnip developer extraordinaire in number seven.

7. Five jobs I’ve had.
Furniture destroyer, pro fur shedder, air chewer, exotic dancer, flower smeller (more on that later!).

I’m supposed to tag five other cats with this meme, but I only know the kitties over at Bitchypoo. I’m a bit of an einzelgänger if you will, and only communicate with humans. I’ll give it a shot though!

Ok Nippon, thanks for that. Of course, this post would not be complete without some Nippon pics. I won’t let you down. Here is a shot I made of her when I was on the top floor of the building Nippon lives in.

And now, the same picture, but zoomed in and with a 90 degree twist.

Whaddaya want hooman?

I think this caption suits it very well indeed:

tnx Jezebel

That’s all from Nippon right now. More about her mysterious flower smelling later this week!

Kittehs on treadmills…and something else

May 13, 2008

Hi there! It is so hot in Amsterdam right now that I just don’t have the energy to write a lot. Too bad, because this is my 100th post! I promise I’ll make the 123rd real special. Anyway, I’ve let myself be inspired by Cuteoverload to post some videos about cats on treadmills. It’s all the rage people!

A very lazy treadmill cat:

Active kittehs on treadmills, twice:

After the jump: an animal you really would not expect on a treadmill, and the last video again, but with music!

Petting zoo

May 7, 2008

I’m back! I really did not feel like writing the last couple weeks, because I was a bit stressed out. I applied for a Master that I really wanted to do, and I was about to hear if I was accepted or not. I just had no idea if it would all work out, but now I do! Hooraaaay! I’m going back to school in September, it’s for real now. I just can’t tell you how exited I am, to finally be on the path I wanted to follow for so long.

Anyway, enough about me, more about the petting zoo I went to recently (nice transition no?). It’s a nice place, pretty close to my house with loads of different animals. Unfortunately my camera wasn’t too cooperative when I went, so my guinea pig pics and goat portrait didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted them to. I can only offer you some birds and a cow, but they’re still nice.

If anyone can help me with the name of these birds, please do:

For the birds birds

I think they are zebra finches, but I’m not sure. The sounded a lot like the nasty little fluffballs from one of the best Pixar shorts, For the Birds (official site here). And they look like them too, sitting all next to each other gossiping away. Check out the second one from the right, he is so up to something and the most right one doesn’t even know it yet. Think I’m nuts? Check out the screenshot from the video below:

Same devious look no?

And now, one of the most relaxed cows in the world.
